2018 Arc’teryx Alpine Academy – 4 Days, 410 Alpine Participants, 110 Mountain Guides, 34 World-Class Athletes

Once again, the Arc’teryx Alpine Academy united alpine enthusiasts, mountain guides and professional athletes in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, 5-8th July 2018.

It’s safe to say the 7th annual Arc’teryx Alpine Academy left a lasting impression. This year’s event brought together hundreds of passionate mountain people from all over the world into the dramatic and inspiring Chamonix Valley. The goal: to connect with one another while developing their mountain skills under the guidance of Chamex mountain guides and Arc’teryx Athletes. From those stepping into crampons for the first time, to others getting ready to summit their next peak, the Alpine Academy continues to provide a safe and exciting environment to help people explore wild places.

Set in the midst of Europe’s mountaineering heritage, the 7th edition of the popular alpine event created a space where beginners and experts alike could gain alpine knowledge and advance their mountain skills through top-notch clinics and by sharing unforgettable experiences in a unique environment.

This year participants could choose from more than 30 elite clinics with different skill levels and fields of interest, such as mountaineering, climbing, ski alpinism, trail running and rescuing. For the first time this year, participants could attend overnight portal edge, multiple day hiking and environmental clinics.

The Arc’teryx Alpine Academy experience continued at the ‘Alpine Village’ in the heart of Chamonix. It turned the popular Place Balmat into a buzzing hot spot open to everyone, offering a daily program with open-air master classes, a movie night featuring The Empire of Winds world premiere, concerts, athlete demos, bouldering and climbing walls, technical products testing, and many more activities from the Academy partners.

Another highlight at this year’s Alpine Village was the Photo Exhibition, paying homage to the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc mountains. And the best thing: All featured shots were up for bidding during a silent auction, with the highest bids being donated to the local organization En Passant Par la Montagne.

The event’s goal is to deliver enabling alpine knowledge to clinic and seminar participants as well as to a remote audience of mountain enthusiasts visiting the Alpine Village in the heart of Chamonix.
