Forest Service Seeks Comments On Tucker Mountain Projects At Copper Mountain Resort

The Dillon Ranger District of the White River National Forest is seeking comments on a proposal from Copper Mountain Resort (CMR) to improve ski infrastructure, safety and guest facilities and communications at Tucker Mountain.
CMR is proposing to install a new chairlift called the Tucker Lift, on the north side of Tucker Mountain, and to construct a ski patrol outpost, bomb cache, and snow fence and communication tower on Tucker Ridge. Additionally, CMR is proposing the installation of two new restroom facilities—one located at the bottom of Mountain Chief chairlift in Copper Bowl, and the second located at the bottom of the Rendezvous and Sierra chairlifts in Union Bowl. All of the proposed projects are located entirely within CMR’s existing operational boundary and special use permit (SUP) area. For more information visit the project website:
“This proposal, identified in Copper Mountain’s Master Development Plan, will allow for greater access to existing terrain at Copper,” said Bill Jackson, District Ranger. “We are interested in hearing what the public thinks about the project.”
The proposed project will address four identified needs at CMR: improving access to terrain within the current operational boundary, providing the necessary facilities to effectively carry out snow safety and mountain operations work associated with the new lift, improve communication capabilities for staff and guests, and expand access to restroom facilities at these locations.
The Tucker Lift was previously approved in a different alignment in the 2006 Copper Mountain Trail and Facilities Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Record of Decision (ROD). Since that time, a new alignment has been identified in the same general vicinity that would improve connectivity with other trails and lifts. Therefore, the Forest Service has decided to take the new alignment through site-specific environmental analysis.
