Municipality Of Ski Resort Whistler, B. C., Sends Letter To Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Claiming Climate Change Damages,

In Canada, the Municipality of ski resort Whistler, B. C., sent a letter to Canadian Natural Resources Limited, claiming they are owed climate change damages, as reported in the Calgary Herald, Dec. 13, 2018, says Friends of Science Society.

It's fair to say that Friends of Science are in the minority on climate change. After a thorough review of a broad spectrum of literature on climate change, Friends of Science Society has concluded that the sun is the main driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide (CO2).

The environmental group behind the “Climate Law in Our Own Hands” campaign is West Coast Environmental Law. On their website, they post a picture of a couple in t-shirts with the slogan: “Big Oil Owes Your Community for Climate Costs.”

Friends of Science Society says the public have had enough of environmental groups pushing for untenable demands on climate change policies, such as that reported by CBC on Dec. 16, 2018. Greenpeace and Climate Action Network call for ‘more action’ following COP-24 talks in Katowice.

The public backlash against Whistler was immediate with dozens of people taking to social media to condemn Whistler as hypocrites due to it proudly boasting some 3 million visitors a year and having been host to the 2010 Winter Olympic ski events, certainly creating a huge carbon footprint.

Friends of Science Society has posted an open letter to the Mayor of Whistler and the CEO of CNRL, copying the Competition Bureau of Canada and the Charities Division of the Canada Revenue Agency. In their letter, they point out that environmental charities have been funded by the foreign ClimateWorks Foundation and partners.

A case in point, West Coast Environmental Law (WCEL) received a grant of $97,131 from the Oak Foundation, a ClimateWorks partner, to create a legislated tanker ban on the west coast with the stated purpose of the cancellation of the multi-billion dollar, approved, Northern Gateway pipeline. WCEL succeeded in obtaining the ban; now over a hundred thousand industry people are unemployed and investment is fleeing Canada.

In another open letter, Friends of Science Society are asking Canadian senators to reject Bill C-69, a proposed reform to infrastructure and energy projects, on grounds that foreign funded environmental groups are meddling in Canadian affairs to the detriment of the Canadian economy.

Friends of Science Society posted a climate science and carbon tax brief for Prime Minister Trudeau earlier this year, showing that carbon dioxide is not the control knob on climate change, consequently a carbon tax is a useless measure. Claiming ‘climate damages’ or a ‘climate damage tax’ as demanded by WWF and others is simply a shakedown. Friends of Science Society says the public wants to know who these environmental groups are really working for; certainly this is not charitable activity and there is no net benefit to the public – in fact there is much harm.

According to Friends of Science Society, the sun is the main direct and indirect driver of climate change. With a solar minimum in progress which will result in a cooling trend, society will need all the heat from oil, natural gas and coal it can get. Canada should not allow vulture investors to take advantage of current market conditions.
