Canadian Team Announcement: 2018 FIS Junior Freestyle Ski And Snowboard World Championships
Alpine Canada congratulates the Canadian ski cross athletes named to the 2018 FIS Junior Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships as part of the Audi Quattro Winter Games NZ. Two Canadians will represent Canada on the world stage in Cardrona, NZ, competing August 24-28, 2018.
“The World Junior Championships are important events for young athletes. It is one of the stepping stones to becoming a successful athlete on the World Cup circuit” said Victor Dockal, Canada Ski Cross Next Gen Head Coach. “Canada has a strong history of success at the Junior World Champs, with Marielle Thompson and India Sherret claiming titles in 2013 and 2015 respectively”. In 2016, Kris Mahler brought home bronze medal for Canada. Zach Belczyk and Alexa Velcic earned Silver and Bronze respectively in 2017.

It will be the first time competing at the Junior World Championships for both athletes. Martin, a BC Ski Team alumni, is coming off her inaugural season as a ski cross athlete. She stood on the podium and had success at the FIS, Nor-Am Cup and Europa Cup level throughout 2018. Martin finished the 2017-18 season ranked 4th in the ski cross Nor-Am Cup standings.
Tremblay, a member of the Alberta Ski Cross team, has tasted success in the Western Canadian ski cross series and FIS races, and was ranked 12th in the ski cross Nor-Am Cup standings for 2017-18.
The 2018 FIS Junior Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships are open to ski cross athletes born 1997-2001.
