FIS Coordination Group Gathers In Are Following Successful Dress Rehearsal
The FIS Coordination Group gathered on Monday and Tuesday for its semi-annual meeting to review preparations for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2019 in the Northern Swedish town.
Among those gathered at the two-day event were the Local Organising Committee and Swedish Ski Association, representatives of the resort owner SkiStar, FIS and the media and commercial rights holders Infront.
The meeting came one month after Åre hosted a successful Audi FIS Ski World Cup season Finals, which saw Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher crowned the overall season winners. Immediately following the Finals week, the World Broadcasters meeting took place in Åre, marking another major milestone for the hosts of next season's World Championships.
Key items on the agenda of the FIS Coordination Group were discussions about lessons learned from the World Cup Finals from technical, logistical and promotional standpoints. Additionally, the group heard updates from a wide array of areas from marketing and communications to volunteers and accreditation and medical services. The main topic addressed by all stakeholders and participants concerned actions to attract spectators on site.
Åre 2019 CEO Niklas Carlsson stated: "It's very helpful for us at Åre 2019 to have a set deadline to review and share information among our entire team and with all the stakeholders. Now just a very short time remains until it is upon us to invite the world to Åre and to deliver a great show. We are very motivated to do our best. This Coordination Group meeting showed that we are on track. Our focus in the coming months will be structure, planning and documentation to get ready for the Final Inspection in October and before we move to execution."
The clock is slowly ticking down to the 2019 World Championships which will be staged in less than 300 days from 5th-17th February.
