Coaching changes In Ski Jumping
Following the end of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup season presented by Viessmann, five national teams have announced changes to their coaching staff. As of summer, new Head Coaches will give the starting signal for the athletes of Finland, Slovenia, Austria, France and Japan.
Finland; Andreas Mitter:
After two years, the Finnish Ski Association and Austrian Andreas Mitter announced the end of their cooperation. A successor has not been announced yet.
Slovenia; Goran Janus:
After seven years as Head Coach for the Slovenian squad, Goran Janus will move on to the role of Sports Director for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined. Under Janus, jumping ace Peter Prevc won the overall World Cup and the 4-Hills-Tournament in the 2015/16 season. Gorazd Bertoncelj will follow in the footsteps of Janus as new Head Coach of the Slovenian team.
Austria; Heinz Kuttin:
Heinz Kuttin served as Head Coach for the Austrian team for four years. During this period, Stefan Kraft claimed the overall World Cup title 2016/17 and also won two FIS World Championship titles in Lahti (FIN). A successor has not been announced yet.
Japan; Tomoharu Yokokawa:
Tomoharu Yokokawa recently resigned as Head Coach of the Japanese squad. During his eight-year tenure, veteran Noriaki Kasai won silver (large hill) at the Olympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi and Japan took bronze in the team event. As assistant to Chiharu Saito, Yokokawa will be responsible for the Nordic disciplines within the Japanese Ski Association. He will be replaced by former world class jumper Hideharu Miyahira as the new Head Coach of the Japanese team.
France; Gerard Colin:
Gerard Colin decided to end his job as Head Coach for the French team after four years. A successor has not been announced yet.
