Livigno’s Carosello 3000 Gondola Construction Continues
The construction of the new Carosello 3000 gondola in San Rocco area has entered the "hot phase ". Work is proceeding at a rapid pace, but the completion of the construction for the beginning of the winter will also depend on the meteorological conditions during the next two months. Carosello 3000 and Doppelmayr declare themselves optimistic.
Two consecutive gondola lifts, with a total length of 3 km and a vertical rise of 900 m and three completely new stations, all this has to be realized during the short and meteorologically unpredictable Livigno’s summer. The construction of the new Carosello 3000 gondola (San Rocco area), started just after the closing of the last winter season, is now entering its most delicate phase.
Stefano Cusini, General Manager of Carosello 3000, is fairly optimistic about the completion of the work: "In September, we have made great strides, and all our working teams have done their best to stick to the schedules that we set. Now there is a perception that many things are about to be completed, but we are working on a tight time frame. We cannot yet be sure that the new gondola will be ready for the beginning of the winter season because it will depend very much on the weather conditions during the next two months. There is, however, great optimism among us.”
The mechanical construction of the stations of the Doppelmayr gondola lifts is nearing completion and all 29 pylons have been erected. Now we will focus on electrical components, rope installation and on-rope installation of 10-passenger cabins. At the same time, we will try to make as much progress as possible with the masonry work on the stations. Finally, we will enter the testing and commissioning phase, and that is where the Ministry of Transport comes into play.
Simone Tomelleri, head of the Doppelmayr project, says, "We have built longer lifts, and even in more inaccessible sites. Here the challenge is different, but equally exciting: the timeline within which the Carosello 3000 gondola has to be completed. Livigno's summer is very short. Snow can come at any time and even in large quantities. From now on, it will be a true race against time."
The new gondola in San Rocco area will mark a decisive step in the renewal of the infrastructure in Livigno, and once it comes into operation, it will further enhance the experience for winter and summer outdoor sports lovers.
After the construction of other lifts in the last decade, and an innovative MTB project the whole world is talking about, the Cusini Group - the holding company which owns Carosello 3000 - confirms with this work the strong investment readiness in order to cement the place of this mountain resort in Valtellina among the top international destinations.
