Pico Mountain Plans Opening Day For Friday, December 15, 2017 And A Weekend Community “Food Raiser”
Vermont’s Pico Mountain, part of the POWDR adventure lifestyle company, is scheduled to kick off its 2017-18 winter season at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15 2017. The fifth annual Opening Weekend Food Raiser will take place on December 16-17, 2017 when discounted lift tickets will be provided in exchange for food donations for low-income Vermonters.
The Food Raiser is a partnership with Pico Mountain and local nonprofit organization BROC Community Action, which feeds 600 families each month through the BROC Community Food Shelf. Discounted single-day lift tickets will be available Saturday and Sunday at the Pico Sales Center for $29 (regularly $79) for all ages with a donation of three non-perishable food items.
“We at Pico Mountain are proud to support those in need in our community and continue our Opening Weekend tradition of rallying our ski and snowboard family with a food raiser to collect donations and grow awareness of food insecurity in southern Vermont ahead of the winter holidays,” says Rich McCoy, director of operations at Pico Mountain. “BROC Community Action works relentlessly to improve the quality of life for Vermonters in our community and we utilize incentives like discounted lift tickets to encourage food donations, because every single contribution helps feed a neighbor in need.”
Additional ways to save on lift tickets include My Pico 3 Packs, that are 3-ticket bundles which can be used throughout the 2017-18 season or shared with friends and family on the same day. While they are valid all season long, My Pico 3 Packs are only available for purchase through December 14, 2017. Skiers and snowboarders can choose from 3-packs valid any day excluding peak days ($114) or 3-packs valid any day ($124).
Skiers and snowboarders can also save with the Express Card which retails for $99 and offers discounted lift ticket rates at both Killington Resort and Pico Mountain for the entire 2017-18 season. My Pico, My Price E-Tickets offer the guaranteed lowest prices for skiers and snowboarders who plan ahead at least 24 hours, and are available on a first come, first served basis.
Pico Mountain lift hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during weekends and on peak days. The full 2017-18 Pico Mountain operating schedule can be found at picomountain.com.
In 1937 on Thanksgiving morning, a legend was born: Pico Mountain Ski Resort. Although it was humbly equipped with only a 1,200’ rope tow powered by a Hudson motor car engine, skiers – true skiers – loved it. Since then a lot has changed, but the love for the mountain still lives today, and it’s as strong as ever. Families and skiing traditionalists now enjoy 56 trails and a Terrain Park serviced by seven lifts, including two high-speed detachable quads.
