Oberstdorf 2021 Nordic Champs Coordination Group Meeting Held
The third FIS Coordination Group meeting for the 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships took place on Monday and Tuesday in Oberstdorf (GER) at the Audi Ski Jumping Arena in outstanding winter conditions.
Members of the German Ski Association including DSV President Franz Steinle together with the Oberstdorf 2021 Local Organising Committee and Tourist Office with Mayor Laurent O. Mies welcomed members from FIS and Infront, the official media and marketing partner of Oberstdorf 2021 for the meetings.
It will be a busy Nordic winter for the Allgäu Alp resort as they will host the traditional Four-Hills Tournament, followed by two stages of the Tour de Ski, the 2018 FIS Ski Flying World Championships and the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup finals for the ladies. All of the events will provide the local Organisers with a chance to promote the 2021 FIS World Championships, recruit volunteers and test the infrastructure upgrades.
Since the last Coordination Group meeting in the spring, the focus has been on establishing new members in the Organising Committee operational team, construction projects and facility management with improvements on the Cross-Country tracks and finish area. It is anticipated that these developments will leave a lasting legacy for tourism especially Nordic Skiing in the area.
The Local Organisers provided a comprehensive progress report on several other key areas including marketing, press facilities, promotional activities alongside many functional and technical areas.
“The Oberstdorf team has a very busy winter organising the FIS Ski Flying World Championships and multiple FIS World Cup events, alongside continuing their planning for the 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships,” said FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis. “The engagement from all stakeholders in the Local Organising Committee with the German Ski Association, the town of Oberstdorf, region of Allgäu and Ski Club Oberstdorf ensured the 3rd FIS Coordination Group meeting was extremely productive with many key tasks, roles and responsibilities defined.”
