New Campaign Launched To Capitalise On 2018 Winter Olympics. Snowsport England Head Up ‘Pyeongchang To Piste’ Initiative

Today sees the launch of a new campaign called ‘PyeongChang to Piste’ aimed at bringing the UK snowsports industry together to try and capitalise on the interest in skiing and snowboarding triggered by the 2018 Winter Olympics, and it is being championed by Snowsport England, with British Ski and Snowboard, Snowsport Scotland, Snowsport Wales, the Ski Club of Great Britain, SIGB, the British Ski and Snowboard National Foundation, Ellis Brigham and Switzerland Tourism as key partners.

As the snowsports world heads towards a season which will feature a Winter Olympics and Paralympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, the industry has an invaluable chance to capitalise on the opportunity of the heightened interest in skiing and snowboarding. ‘PyeongChang to Piste’ (www.pyeongchangtopiste.org.uk) will create noise about skiing and snowboarding and will feature events and taster sessions run by various clubs and slopes throughout the country. The website will  also feature downloadable school resources about snowsports to be used during every day learning, plus a link into Snowsport England’s Go Ski Go Board website which is a hub of information on everything to do with getting into skiing and snowboarding.

Snowsport England CEO Tim Fawke said: “As the organisation responsible for grass roots development of snowsports, we felt it was our responsibility to try and make the most of the opportunity the 2018 Winter Olympics will bring and take the lead on organising a national campaign that will create a buzz about skiing and snowboarding. We are encouraging the entire UK snowsports industry to get involved and hope that the information on the website as well as the events organised by slopes and clubs to get people having a go will mean we can get a good number of people hooked on skiing and snowboarding across the UK.”

PyeongChang to Piste will complement Snowsport England’s national participation campaign, Go Ski Go Board, which has been running since 2013. Go Ski Go Board will continue to act as the hub of everything to do with getting into snowsports. The newly revamped Go Ski Go Board website (www.goskigoboard.org.uk) features detailed information on how to get started, which discipline to choose and where to start if you fancy the competitive side of skiing and snowboarding. The website hub also includes an invaluable slope map, clubs & slopes listing and an activity finder so those new to the sport can easily find local ski or snowboard sessions.

Two high profile ambassadors continue to support both PyeongChang to Piste and Go Ski Go Board for 2017/18 – GB Park and Pipe snowboarder Aimee Fuller and Delancey British Alpine Team skier Dave Ryding, both of whom will continue to spread the message about the benefits of ski and snowboard participation.

The industry can get involved by pointing clients towards the PyeongChang to Piste website www.pyeongchangtopiste.org.uk and using #PyeongChangtoPiste on social meida. They can also get involved as an official partner by contacting victoria.crampton@snowsportengland.org.uk
